Patriarchal Society CANNOT BE a democracy...

'India's Daughter,' the film banned by India: What did it show?

India... the developing economy... the "world's largest democracy"... is still developing socially too...
It was horrific when it first happened... the rape of a young women in a public bus... It is a continuing horror...
Leslee Udwin has made the documentary to draw the attention once more to the gender gap and gender bias in India and in the similar cultures  like Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh...
It is hard to watch the opening scene when the rape occurs in the bus... when the 23 year old student embarks with his friend...
It is difficult to comprehend the logic and social justification of the four men who have perpetrated the rape...

The men are unrepentant... the men are defiant and of course they blame the victim...
India is a patriarchal society... and the "world's largest democracy" is actually is the world's largest patriarchal society... and I do not care what Western Civilization calls it... I do not care what the Big Brothers of Western metropolises proclaim... There cannot exist democracy in a patriarchal society... where women are relegated to second class existence...
Democracy will flourish in a society where social and economic opportunities exists equally for both genders... There cannot be a democracy in a society where there is gender bias and gender inequality and discrimination for sexual orientation ...
One of the men, the driver of the bus, blames the victim for the rape in the documentary... He says any good girl will not be out at that time... "Housework and housekeeping is for girls, not roaming in discos and bars at night... " He suggests, people "had a right to teach them a lesson" and that the woman should have "put up with it"... "When being raped, she shouldn't fight back. She should be silent and allow the rape. Then they'd have dropped her off after 'doing her', and only hit the boy"... her companion...

The documentary is attempting to educate the public... The documentary is holding a mirror to Indian society... But the government of Big Brother Modi... is furious... and has banned the movie...
Now,
How this ban is different from the Paris attacks in a newspaper... Islamist-Jihadists attached Charlie Hebdo to silence FREE SPEECH... and the "world's largest democracy" issued a government ban... Indian Home Minister promised an inquiry into how a TV crew gained permission to interview one of the Delhi gang rapists who is on death row...
Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh

A patriarchal society has patriarchal norms and rules... Its logic is faulty to start with... and a patriarchal society cannot be a democracy... After all, it denies the rights of half-of the-society and condemns them just to housework...

The Big Brother government is furious about the film crew having access to one of the rapist... The patriarchs are angry because of the social outrage that the film has aroused... They want everything to be cozy and women to keep silent... They are outraged that the rapists shows no remorse... after all, they see themselves in his him... and essentially the rapist attitude is their attitude too... The Big Brothers of India have banned the film... and by banning the film they are sided with all those who are against FREE SPEECH... like the other Big Brothers of the world... like the Islamist-Jihadists who attacked Charlie Hebdo in Paris...

Of course we'll be happy that we live in Europe and North America... where society is evolved out of its patriarchal past and that women can do anything they desire... Maybe...
But it is very hard to abandon privileges and  it is very difficult to grow out of the biases of our patriarchal cultural norms...
Check how a U.S. senator behaved...few days ago...

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi           and        Senator Graham

This is what he said...
"Did you see Nancy Pelosi on the floor? Complete disgust," Graham said, according to Josh Rogin of Bloomberg View. "If you can get through all the surgeries, there's disgust."

Well, the senator has indeed something common with the Big Brothers of India and their patriarchal norms and views of society...
So we are not that far ahead of the "world's largest [patriarchal] democracy..."
Maybe instead of exporting" democracy to Iraq... to Afghanistan... and to the rest of the world... Maybe, just maybe... we should take another look into the mirror and re-educate ourselves...
Maybe... then we will be able to enjoy the daisy like the above bee...
