Growing up with Toxic Stress.... (But we can do better....)
Kids are precious...Kids are the future...
We love them...and we want to protect them from harm and harmful incidents...
At times we succeed...But not always...
Things happen around us...and then we are helpless to protect them...
Small things happen...like,
- Cars crash across the school...near our home...
- A house catches fire nearby ... in the school a test tube explodes...
- A friend gets hurt...a relative gets sick...needs operation...
- The parents lose their job...the family gets stressed over money...and food...and housing...
Bigger things happen...like,
- Wars...
- Police shoot and unarmed teen and riots in the street...like in Ferguson...
Small and big things happen...and at times we feel helpless...We genuinely want to protect the kid...but then Big Brother dictates...and the school principal suspends the kid...the vice principal...recommends that the kid must be "kicked out of school"...
Frustration builds up...and than things explode...like in Ferguson, Missouri, U.S. of A.
The images are disturbing... and the small town U.S. looks like a war zone...It is hard to look at the scenes of tear gas and violence...
Small town U.S. must be peaceful...that is the image that we expect...but for the past ten days things are happening and we are unable to protect our kids...
Older kids may understand what's happening better than the toddlers...and we feel very insecure and helpless....
Continued exposure to dramatic and stressful events the kids will grow with toxic stress... They will bottle it up...They will try to deal with it...They will act and react to incidents around them...They will try to cope with discrimination and neglect... and them one day a symptomatic incident will occur and things around us will explode...
The Archduke will be assassinated in Sarajevo and WWI will be triggered...
Michael Brown will be shot death ...in the street of Ferguson and things will start rolling...and the bottled up frustration...of accumulated discrimination and unemployment...and substandard education...will explode...
And, things will happen... Look at the numbers below...
Ferguson unrest in numbers...
(the stats are issued by US Census, American Community Survey, Ferguson City Police)
(the stats are issued by US Census, American Community Survey, Ferguson City Police)
- Population of Ferguson, Missouri 21,205
- Black or black African 65%
- Police officers are black 6%
- Unemployed 9%
- Families living below the poverty line 21%
The numbers are revealing and speak for themselves.... But in America...but in Canada...and Europe...This should not be the norm...These should not be the numbers...
We can do better....We should do better...
We should care more....We should share more...We should act together...
Otherwise things will happen and the scenes in Ferguson will be repeated again and again and again and again and again...
Some will justify their action with scenes like this...and slogans like the above...
You may join them too...You may act in a positive way...
But the police...but the Big Brother should not trample free speech and free expression...
Scenes like this are not becoming to America...to Canada...to Europe...
We are more civilized...and the police should not trample peoples rights...by arbitrary actions...in the name of what...I do not know...
people have constitutional rights and should not be treated like this...
The constitution cannot be abrogated by the barrels of guns...
This is not the right way...
There must be another way...There must be others means...
There must be sharing the prosperity ... to avoid looting...
Journalist should not be arrested and then released...
That is intimidation ...That is muzzling peoples right for
information...Constitutional rights and freedoms are
more than the barrel of someones gun...
(CNN) -- Six journalists were taken into custody
while covering the protests in Ferguson, Missouri, on Monday and early Tuesday,
aggravating what one press freedom group has called a "concerted, top-down
effort to restrict the fundamental First Amendment rights of the public and the
press."
The incidents bring the total
number of journalists arrested during the mid-August protests to 11.
better... Freedom to live happily ever after is the
constitutional rights for all of us... not only a few
percent elite...
Learn to share ... That will avoid violence and that will
avoid looting...
I am sure we can do more...
I am sure you - the youth, can act and do more...
May be you can teach us the NEW WAY of doing
things...
Otherwise things will always happen...
Otherwise the kids will be stressed out.. and grow up
with "toxic stress"... and things will explode...
