"PEACE is NOT only the Absence of WAR..."

  Peace is NOT only the absence of war, but work for              justice too...The Pope declared...

         and I agree 100%

The war may be over... The violence may have subsided...But that is not necessarily peace... it may very well be a subjugation of the side that was defeated...

So,

“Absence of war” = Peace

      

     is a very faulty statement...   Subjugation of someone...Subjugation of a group in such a manner that they are unable, or unwilling to retaliate and fight... IS NOT PEACE...

After the war is over there MUST BE justice too...There must be equality before the law... There must be RESPECT of minority rights...

This is essential for any democracy... Respect of minority rights is crucial...for a democracy to flourish and develop and evolve to a better and better social fabric...

The Pope is absolutely correct in his observation...But I hope the Vatican ACTS too ... and goes beyond declarations and beyond hypothesis... Actions have to follow...

As the popular wisdom says...Actions speak louder than mere declarations...

Peace is even more...

Emancipation of subjugated groups is not freedom... It is the first step in liberating the subjugated... If we liberate a group and later let them starve...That is neither emancipation nor freedom...

Peace is the absence of war...

And, also...

Peace is respect of minority rights + equality before the law + economic opportunities + access to education + access to arts and culture + fulfillment of aspiration...

Indeed peace is the sum total of the fulfillment of human aspirations...The sky must be the limit for ALL... and if  “there are no limits,” then there should be “no limits” for all...

Cronyism ... nepotism...greasing of the palm...have nothing to do with democracy... I know this from my teaching experience... Despite the fact that I may like someone more...Despite the fact that I may not like a person...It is not RIGHT to treat them differently... I must respect the idiosyncrasies of all and treat all equally... I must give them equal opportunity to learn...

Big Brother should take PEACE more seriously...Big Brother should treat ALL equality... The Police should treat everyone the same way, that is...respectfully and let them have equal access to justice... Big Brother should provide equal opportunity to all to excel and to soar higher and higher ... for the glory of society and a better tomorrow...

Otherwise Ferguson, Missouri will become a shameful Fergustan...

I was hooked up to TV all of yesterday afternoon and evening...following the peaceful rally in the church and then the riots streets...

This is not democracy...this is not civilized...and U.S. and Canada are MUCH BETTER than these scenes in the streets of Ferguson...

The police should...must “serve and protect” ALL...

The police should respect all...and treat people according to the law..
I am having difficulty to comprehend why an UNARMED human being will be shot 6 times...two of them in the head...
That may happen in war...
But, the Pope said Peace is not the absence of war ONLY...

These is a confrontation which should not happen in civilized society...

The U.S. and Canada are civilized communities flourishing in diversity...

Democratic norms MUST and SHOULD respect the rights of minorities...

This were the streets in Ferguson yesterday...

Arming the police is not an answer...

Arming the police is just admitting defeat... Arming the police will NEVER USHER in prosperity and PEACE...

We should engage in democratic polylogue... and we should treat each other the way we want to be treated...

We may be angry... We may yell and demonstrate peacefully...

We may demand justice for all under the law...

That is our democratic right...

But this is NOT the way...

This is also the scene from Ferguson...

 and

 this is NO WAY THE PATH TO JUSTICE AN PEACE...

This is not the way... "brother"...

I am ashamed to look at these scenes...

There is no justification for looting...

There is no justification for violence...

Let me posit a question...

If there is a fight...If there is a war... which is the human side...?

The Pope said "Peace is not only the absence of War... ," and I agree with him... 

I hope the Pope and Big Brother will transcend the word and demonstrate their convictions in ACTION  too...

You have the right to be treated respectfully in a civilized society...

You have the right to work and earn an honest day's living...

You have the right to walk in the streets of your city without fear...

You have the right to walk around attired in your preference...and people                 should not discriminate you because of your ways... and your looks... and             your accent...

You have the right to believe in God ... the God of your choice...

You have the right NOT to believe in God... and you should be respected too...

We should not impose the majority way of doing things on the minority ... 

Democracy and Big Brother should respect the rights of the minorities too...

We can have peace in diversity... We can have peace without borders...
