The Civil War that Never Ended....

The Civil War that never ended...
I always believed that dikes, kings, dictators, oligarchs, plutocrats... or any ruler... cannot legislate how people behave and in what they believe...
Societies may be coerced and subjugated... enslaved and oppressed... but rulers and mighty armies cannot legislate societies norms and mores...

  • The so called Arab Spring... to democratize the Middle east, yielded a very different and sour result... We witnessed the Iraqi war, another dictator replacing Mubarak in Egypt, the failed state of Libya... the civil war in Syria... and the kings and emirs of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and United Arab Emirates...
  • The invasion of Afghanistan resulted in the longest American war... Vietnam dwarfed compared to Afghanistan war...
These demonstrated that cultural norms and customs cannot be exported from America to the Middle East an to other countries like Russia and the rest of the oligarchies of the previous Soviet Union...

That is what is happening to the  North-South divide in the U.S.
The armed Civil War is over... but values and customs still persist... The Confederate symbols and statues are everywhere...
This again demonstrates that values and societal norms cannot be subjugated by arms and erased by force...
The "hot" Civil War maybe over, but the clash of values and societal norms, the "cold" Civil War is still continues...

That's what French President Macron suggests also...

French President Emmanuel Macron has warned that "there seems to be a European [cold] civil war" between liberal democracy and rising authoritarianism.
Emmanuel Macron in Tallinn Digital Summit. Welcome dinner hosted by HE Donald Tusk. Handshake (36669381364) (cropped 2).jpgHe urged the EU to renew its commitment to democracy, in a passionate speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
"I don't want to belong to a generation of sleepwalkers that has forgotten its own past", he said.

This is very much the same as the cold Civil War in the U.S. and in order to change societal norm and attitudes not only time is needed... but above all to show the superiority of the "other" ideas... and deliver those "other" ideas in a good functioning economy for all... and not only for the one per cent...
Macron celebrating... When France won the  World Cup... and Macron and the rest MUST remember that at least half of the French team was Africans from different countries of Africa...
French colonial rule had opened up the doors of Africa to France...

The "cold" Civil War still Goes On...

US students topple Confederate soldier statue in North Carolina...

The statue of a Confederate soldier, nicknamed Silent Sam, has been a target of vandalism and protests for decades.
Some 250 protesters also argued with a handful of counter-protesters, some in Confederate flag T-shirts, media said.
Symbols for the losing side of the American Civil War have become a major flashpoint in a national race debate.
Monday's action is the latest move to dismantle Confederate memorials, which critics call racially offensive, considering the history of slavery in the southern US states.
Supporters argue they preserve American history.

Protesters, including students, university staff and local residents, pulled down the 1913 statue using rope and buried its face in dirt, student paper The Daily Tar Heel said.
"Last night's actions were unlawful and dangerous, and we are very fortunate that no one was injured," the university said in a statement on Twitter.
"The police are investigating the vandalism and assessing the full extent of the damage."
Protesters gathered to express their frustration at inaction by university leaders and to support a student facing possible sanctions for splashing red ink and blood on Silent Sam in an April protest.
"It's time to tear down Silent Sam. It's time to tear down UNC's institutional white supremacy," student Maya Little, who faces charges, told the crowd on Monday.
No clashes were reported. At least one person was arrested on charges of concealing their face during a public rally and resisting arrest, the university said.

More than 110 symbols have been removed since 2015, and more than 1,740 continue to stand, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
But some southern states have strengthened their laws to protect Confederate statues.
The recent movement to remove Confederate symbols from the 1861-1865 civil war accelerated after the 2015 shooting of nine black churchgoers by a gunman in Charleston, South Carolina.

No one is able to win the Civil War by arms alone... The "North" has to demonstrate that their norms, culture and ideas are superior to that of the "South"...
The "North" must demonstrate that its way of living is the more humane, thus human and better way of living...
Shouting at each other will not do... maybe a better economic system where the 99% also benefits from the better performing economy... maybe sharing the economic benefits and spreading the wealth... will be a better way of advancing the values of the "North..."
Get rid of the rule of the 1% plutocratic "democracy..."
Oligarchic chaos in Russia or plutocratic suffocation in the U.S. are almost identical...

Saudi Arabia, the "friend" of Putin and the West, may carry out its first-ever execution-beheading of female political prisoner... Israa al-Ghomgham...

Saudi Arabia's public prosecutor has reportedly sought the death penalty for five activists, including the female rights defender Israa al-Ghomgham.
Human Rights Watch said they recently went on trial at a terrorism tribunalon charges including "participating in protests" in the restive Qatif region.
It has been the scene of demonstrations by the minority Shia Muslim community.
Saudi Arabia is calling for the beheading of female human rights defender Israa Al-Ghomgham because she participated in peaceful protests.

This is the same barbaric regime which still sits on the UN Women’s Rights Commission... and is friends of the 1% in the U.S. and Europe... and because of their money and donations to trumpists and trumpism... they have the ears of the rulers in Europe and Russia and the U.S.
Protest against beheading of Bangladeshi workers in Saudi Arabia (picture-alliance/dpa/A. Abdullah)
This is how they behead their opponents... Very similar to the Middle Ages in Britain and Europe... when they beheaded kings and queens and archbishops...
Beheadings and the guillotine reign supreme in England and Europe... at the time... they get rid of that tradition...
But Saudi Arabia... still brutalizes its population by their reign of terror...

... and the West... and the U.S. not only keeps silent... but befriends them... devours their  petro- investments... Petro-dollar speaks much louder than human rights and democratic values and the First Amendment...
They confer with them in the hope that petro-investment will pour into their condominium towers and they dance with them to appease them...
Petro-dollar has trumped morality and human rights...

But this may change... that's what the Time magazine cover suggests... and we hope for the best... Maybe better times are still ahead... to make the globe more civilized and human again...

"IN DEEP," the cover says. This is

U.S. is Imitating Russia... Perversion of Democracy...

1984...

is a novel... George Orwell creates a society run by leaders like Putin and Trump... where the leaders insist... that,

"War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength" and as Trump insisted "what you hear and see is not what's happening... or as his lawyer declared... truth isn't truth...

In 1984,
One of the main mind programs of The Party was the so called "double thinking", or doublethink, which "describes the act of simultaneously accepting two mutually contradictory beliefs as correct, often in distinct social contexts."

When 'truth isn't truth...'
The Orwellian slogan applied in our society

 and

Giuliani's tweet came less than 24 hours after he sparred with NBC's "Meet the Press" anchor Chuck Todd over the meaning of "truth."
"When you tell me that, you know, he should testify because he's going to tell the truth and he shouldn't worry, well, that's so silly because it's somebody's version of the truth. Not the truth," Giuliani said Sunday.
"Truth is truth," Todd replied.
"No, no, it isn't truth," Giuliani said. "Truth isn't truth. The President of the United States says, "I didn't ..."
"Truth isn't truth?" Todd interjected. "Mr. Mayor, do you realize, what ... I think this is going to become a bad meme."
"No, no, no ... don't do this to me," Giuliani said.

One is a "billionaire" plutocrat and the other a billionaire oligarch...
Both have tremendous power to create havoc and wreck the world order...
Both have their own "truth" which does not correspond to reality...
Both hate the media and critics... One poisoned opponents in Britain, the other "fired" and bullied and mocked his opponents...
Both do not believe in democratic values... and both are from the 1%...

...and both systems... both swamps stink... like the STINKY below...

Stink

Stinky is blooming at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens... in Los Angeles...

Any "democracy" of one man one vote... is not a true democracy unless it is anchored in economic equality... When people are hungry... homeless... sick... unemployed... one man one vote means fuck all...

Russia has a voting system... Turkey does too... and so does Egypt... but their democracy is just an empty shell... and means nothing...

When only 54.2% vote then it indicates a failed "democracy"... The U.S. did not need Russia to sabotage its elections... The economic reality and homelessness and the distinguishable differences between the major parties is enough to demonstrate the undemocratic democracy of the U.S. and so called liberal democracies... The difference between Putin's oligarchy and U.S. plutocracy is ONLY shaky freedoms of speech and assembly...

Presidential election, which saw just 54.2 % turn out to the polls—and the 2016 results aren’t too shabby...

Voter trunout by year...

VAP = Voting Age Population; VEP = Voting Eligible Population. Note: Percentages here are based on VAP, not VEP, which makes them lower.

That said, the bar is pretty low: Americans are one of the least active voting populations among developed countries, with the U.S. clocking in at 31 out of 35 countries in voter turnout. Take Belgium, which saw over 87 percent of voters turn out in 2014, or Turkey, where over 84 percent of voters made it out to the polls, and the U.S. doesn’t look quite so engaged in its democracy.

So, many Americans choosing to not actively help decide the country’s future leaders. Why? There are probably as many answers to that as there are eligible voters staying out of the polling booths. Here’s a quick look at who actually does vote—and who they voted for...

When people lose faith in the system... then democracy or plutocracy or oligarchy become blurred and they resemble each other...

... and also,
Scientists just announced that...

Water ice 'detected on Moon's surface'

Maybe we should abandon this world and fly to the moon...

Kaguya Moon South Pole

But,                                                                                                                                     Temperatures on the Moon can reach a searing 100C in daytime, which doesn't provide the best conditions for the survival of surface ice.
... and then,                                                                                                                                  The Moon is tilted on its axis by about 1.54 degrees, there are places at the lunar poles that never see daylight.

The satellite which detected the water ice comes from India...
It is ironically absurd that India is launching satellites... to the moon while more than half of its citizens live in poverty... where gang rape of girls and boys is common... and where the so called democracy is based on the caste system...
India is poor and uneducated... but it is also called euphemistically "the world's largest democracy..."

I do not think democracy can exist while most of the people live in poverty...
Poverty perverts democratic values... and income inequality, as in the U.S. and in Russia, makes a mockery of liberal and democratic norms...

About Dicks and More...

The history of religion... is the history of wars, torture, colonization, invasion of foreign lands, misogyny and power hungry patriarchy...
The opulence of the churches, the magnificent palaces of the clergy... contrasts sharply to the humble origins of the founders... Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha, the prophets of the Pentateuch... and all the rest...
They say,
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely... and indeed the history of the Church, the Mosque, the Temple, or the Synagogue... demonstrate amply the power hungry corruption of the religious elite... They have been and they are an integral part of the system of the 1%... which has ruled the globe ever since...

The interfaith wars in Europe between Protestants and Catholics was indeed the struggle among temporal rulers... kings and dukes and "the princes of the Church..."
The Islamic hordes invaded the Arabian Peninsula (Saudi Arabia) and Northern Africa and spread their Islamic faith through the might of their sword... The Asian nomads ( Genghis Khan and Suleiman the Magnificent...) invaded the Middle East and Asia Minor, they massacred the indigenous people, very much like the European White people invaded North America and massacred the indigenous people of North America... The Islamic conquerors established themselves and even committed genocide of the Armenians in the early 20th century... The Muslims have always established themselves by the might of their sword and established their rule and spread their Muslim faith by their sword...

The Islamic armies invaded Europe (Greece, Romania, Hungry and reached the gates of Vienna...) and spread their faith and culture through the sword...

The Catholic Church burned women on stakes as witches... and abused the natives of North America...

The Report published by a U.S. Grand Jury this week is nothing new... It just exposes, yet another time, the barbaric ugliness and abusive power of a religious order...
Check the report...
A report published yesterday has documented the sexual crimes that were perpetrated by over 300 priests in Pennsylvania over 70 years. More than 1,000 children, and probably several times that number, were victims of clerical abuse that was systematically swept under the carpet.
It states ... :
"Priests were raping little boys and girls, and the men of God who were responsible for them not only did nothing; they hid it all," the 1,300-page report found...
And the response of the Vatican...
"Regarding the report made public in Pennsylvania this week, there are two words that can express the feelings faced with these horrible crimes: shame and sorrow," said Greg Burke, director of the Vatican's Press Office.
"The Holy See treats with great seriousness the work of the Investigating Grand Jury of Pennsylvania and the lengthy Interim Report it has produced. The Holy See condemns unequivocally the sexual abuse of minors."
It is not only the sexual abuse of minors... minorities are abused... women are excluded... opulence is the order of the day on ALL religious hierarchies... and sects and orders... Catholics, Evangelicals... who have sold their soul to money and bribes and to Trumpism, and the Jewish faith... who just supported the most racist declaration coming from a state that Israel is for the Jewish people ONLY... and Palestinians are excluded from it... The Buddhists who deported the Rohingyas from Myanmar-Burma... The Muslims who have Jihadist ISIS and Taliban and the rest of the terrorists groups...
No religion is better than the other... and Karl Marx's statement a century ago... Religion is the opium of the people... sounds so true...

The pope hugs ex-Archbishop Theodore McCarrick during a visit to Washington DC in 2015... The Pope new then and did nothing... He just acted after all the shit burst out in his face... and the stink enveloped all of Vatican...
And the bishops, how many of then indeed are abusers themselves?, called for a papal representative to investigate allegations of sexual abuse against former Washington DC Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, 88, who resigned last month...

The Church, and all religious orders and ALL religions,

must adopt what Jesus advised to the rich prince...

Luke 18:18-29 New King James Version (NKJV)

Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler

18 Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
19 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. 20 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’
21 And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.”
22 So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
23 But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.

With God All Things Are Possible

24 And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

I am not a riligous person... but I see a contradiction when there is one... and when I was studying English Lit in university The King James Bible was a required reading... So I remember the above passage...
Religous orders... Trumpists... the 1% ... lay people, laity and clergy... all rulers of the world must "sell all they have and distribute to the poor..."
I had a friend at the university... he left his house doors open... he had just the minimum... a bad, a sofa and few cloths and kitchen utensils... When I asked why he does not lock his doors... He replied... There is nothing to steal... and he was happier for that... and did not care about insurance or all the other worries that people have...

... Of dicks, moral responsibility and Compassion...

I was in downtown LA... and needed to use a restroom... but there were not public place that I could have turned... and the cafes and restaurants had signs "restrooms for customers only..." and they were locked...
So maybe Paris, the City of Lights... has a point... but... that point has a built in gender bias...

Eco-friendly open-air urinals cause uto use proar in Paris...

An attempt by officials in Paris to tackle public urination by installing open-air urinals, or "uritrottoirs," has outraged some residents of the French capital.
The new urinals, housed in flower boxes, aren't subtle -- they're fully exposed on street corners, painted bright red, and have nearby signs advertising their presence.
City officials have installed four open-air urinals, or "uritrottoirs."
City officials have installed four open-air urinals, or "uritrottoirs."
Men holding his dick and exposing himself... But what about the women... How will they use the new urinals...?
Or maybe... the women do not offend by urinating in the public... So they do not need the urinals...
Men offend and they are rewarded... That's what patriarchy is all about... cater to the dicks of the offenders... and ignore the women and their existence...

One urinal, located near the Notre Dame cathedral, overlooks the River Seine. One urinal, located near the Notre Dame cathedral, overlooks the River Seine.
The new urinals, in the City of the Enlightenment... declare that men offend by urinating in the public and they get rewarded... with flower pot urinals...
The urinals claim to be eco-friendly, as they turn waste into compost for parks and gardens.
The urinals claim to be eco-friendly, as they turn waste into compost for parks and gardens ... but they discriminate against women...

Ariel Weil, mayor of the 4th district of Paris, tweeted in defense of the urinals on Monday, calling them "an invention of genius." Four have been installed so far, with a fifth being planned.
Paris isn't the first European city to install outdoor urinals. Amsterdam has had them for years, and cities in Belgium and Australia have also trialed them.

"Comfort Women..." REALLY?
People in South Korea and Taiwan unveiled monuments and staged protests on Tuesday to mark Japan's wartime use of "comfort women", a euphemism for girls and women forced to work in Japan's wartime brothels.
a group of people holding a sign: Protesters hold pictures of "comfort women" and of Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe outside Japan’s de facto embassy in Taipei Taiwanese NGO group members wear masks during a rally to demand that the Japanese government apologize to Taiwanese "comfort women" in Taipei on Aug. 14, 2018. South Koreans protest ...                                 Taiwanese too...
In South Korea, a new monument was unveiled as part of its first "Memorial Day for Japanese Forces' Comfort Women Victims," which threatens to exacerbate a sensitive diplomatic issue with Japan, South Korea's neighbour and a key ally of the United States in efforts to contain North Korea.
A statue of a teenage girl — the original monument to former "comfort women" who served as sex slaves for Japanese soldiers during World War II — sits in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul.
Question...
Why Japan refuses to acknowledge that they abused the women for the convenience of male dicks... ?
I assume male dicks are more important than human compassion and admitting a wrong... I assume Japan will not admit moral responsibility since it will open the doors for legal liability and financial compensation.... So the better option for regimes and autocrats and oligarchs and plutocrats and rulers in Russia and China and North Korea and Japan and the rest is to deny the wrong doing and refuse to accept  responsibility...
Accepting responsibility open the doors to legal liability and compensation...
For these rulers, the 1%... money is more important than morality... and the dick of their soldiers is worth more than the pain of 1000s of women...
Japan's behaviour is very similar to other despotic-democracies like Turkey's Erdogan... Turkey denies the genocide of Armenians and refuses to accept responsibility... after the acceptance will follow with financial responsibility and the return of lands which they stole from the Armenians...
Money dictates morality...
Money rules for the 1%... Be it in the US or in Russia or Japan or Turkey...

...And on a compassionate note...
The tires of the trailer failed and the wires rubbing on the asphalt created sparks which eventually led to brush fires...

The Carr Fire ignited on July 23 near Redding after a trailer got a flat tire and its rim scraped the asphalt. The sparks that shot out from that minor incident started what is now the eighth-largest wildfire in state history.

The fire blazed a fiery path along Highway 299, lighting up dry brush and residential areas, and killing at least seven people.
When Redding resident Rachel Pilli read about the tire failure, she decided to reach out to the trailer's owners with a message of compassion. She posted a message on social media asking if anyone else wants to show their support. About 100 letters poured in -- and they're still coming.
A community devastated by a deadly wildfire in Northern California has a message for the couple whose trailer started the blaze: It's not your fault.
The Carr Fire spread toward the towns of Douglas City and Lewiston near Redding, California.  Photos of the aftermath of "Fire Tornado" in Redding CaliforniaThe Carr Fire started on July 23 and has destroyed more than 1,000 homes, Cal Fire says.  (City of Redding, California )
Smoke from the Carr and Ferguson fires can be seen in satellite images.
Accidents do happen... and despitr the
hardship and ashes and deaths... people reached out with messages of compassion...
The trailer owners were surely comforted with the neighbourly compassion...
Love always trumps hate...
